 Playwright Jim Sherman wrote this today after Hu Jintao was named 
 chief of the Communist Party in China. 

 HU'S ON FIRST

 (We take you now to the Oval Office.) 

 George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening? 

 Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China. 

 George: Great. Lay it on me. 

 Condi: Hu is the new leader of China. 

 George: That's what I want to know. 

 Condi: That's what I'm telling you. 

 George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China? 

 Condi: Yes. 

 George: I mean the fellow's name. 

 Condi: Hu. 

 George: The guy in China. 

 Condi: Hu. 

 George: The new leader of China. 

 Condi: Hu. 

 George: The Chinaman! 

 Condi: Hu is leading China. 

 George: Now whaddya' asking me for? 

 Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China. 

 George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China? 

 Condi: That's the man's name. 

 George: That's who's name? 

 Condi: Yes. 

 George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China? 

 Condi: Yes, sir. 

 George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East. 

 Condi: That's correct. 

 George: Then who is in China? 

 Condi: Yes, sir. 

 George: Yassir is in China? 

 Condi: No, sir. 

 George: Then who is? 

 Condi: Yes, sir. 

 George: Yassir? 

 Condi: No, sir. 

 George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. 
 Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone. 

 Condi: Kofi? 

 George: No, thanks. 

 Condi: You want Kofi? 

 George: No. 

 Condi: You don't want Kofi. 

 George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. 
 And then get me the U.N. 

 Condi: Yes, sir. 

 George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N. 

 Condi: Kofi? 

 George: Milk! Will you please make the call? 

 Condi: And call who? 

 George: Who is the guy at the U.N? 

 Condi: Hu is the guy in China. 

 George: Will you stay out of China?! 

 Condi: Yes, sir. 

 George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N. 

 Condi: Kofi. 

 George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone. 

 (Condi picks up the phone.) 

 Condi: Rice, here. 

 George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. 
 Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. 
 Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East ?

 (백악관 집무실에서)

 George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening? 
 죠지: 콘디(콘돌리자 라이스 - 미 백악관 안보보자관)! 만나서 반가와요.
       무슨 일이 있소?

 Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China. 
 콘디: 예 각하, 중국의 새 지도자에 대한 보고서가 들어왔습니다.

 George: Great. Lay it on me. 
 죠지: 좋아요, 보고해 봐요.

 Condi: Hu is the new leader of China. 
 콘디: '후'가 중국의 새 지도자가 되었습니다. 
 (부시의 귀에는 "누가 (Who) 중국의 새 지도자인가?" 로 들림)

 George: That's what I want to know. 
 죠지: 내가 알고픈 게 바로 그거요. 

 Condi: That's what I'm telling you. 
 콘디: 제가 말씀드린 그대로입니다.

 George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China? 
 죠지: 그걸 묻고 있는 거요. 누가 중국의 새 지도자라고?

 Condi: Yes. 
 콘디: 그렇습니다.

 George: I mean the fellow's name. 
 죠지: 그 사람의 이름이 뭐냐는 말이오.

 Condi: Hu. 
 콘디: '후'입니다.

 George: The guy in China. 
 죠지: 그 중국 사내.

 Condi: Hu. 
 콘디: '후'입니다.

 George: The new leader of China. 
 죠지: 중국의 새 지도자

 Condi: Hu. 
 콘디: '후'입니다.
 (부시에게는 세 번 다 "who - 누구 말씀이신지?" 로 들렸다)

 George: The Chinaman! 
 죠지: 그 중국놈 말이오!

 Condi: Hu is leading China. 
 콘디: '후'가 중국의 지도자입니다.

 George: Now whaddya' asking me for? 
 죠지: 도대체 내게 묻고 싶은 게 뭐요?

 Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China. 
 콘디: 저는 '후'가 중국의 지도자라는 말씀을 드리고 있는 겁니다.

 George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China? 
 죠지: 그럼 내가 당신에게 묻겠소. 누가 중국의 새 지도자라고?

 Condi: That's the man's name. 
 콘디: 그게 그 남자의 이름입니다.

 George: That's who's name? 
 죠지: 누구의 이름?

 Condi: Yes. 
 콘디: 예 각하.

 George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China? 
 죠지: 중국의 새 리더의 이름을 내게 알려 줄 거요, 말 거요?

 Condi: Yes, sir. 
 콘디: 당연히 알려드릴겁니다, 각하.
 (부시에게는 Yes,sir 가 Yassir 로 들림)

 George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East. 
 죠지: '야세르'? 야세르 아라파트 (팔레스타인해방기구 의장) 가 중국에 있단 
       말이오? 나는 그가 중동에 있다고 생각했는데.

 Condi: That's correct. 
 콘디: 정확합니다.

 George: Then who is in China? 
 죠지: 그럼 중국에 있는 건 누구란 말이오?

 Condi: Yes, sir. 
 콘디: 예, 각하

 George: Yassir is in China? 
 죠지: 야세르가 중국에 있다고? 

 Condi: No, sir. 
 콘디: 아닙니다, 각하.

 George: Then who is? 
 죠지: 그럼 누가 (중국에 있단 말이오)?

 Condi: Yes, sir. 
 콘디: 예, 각하.

 George: Yassir? 
 죠지: 야세르?

 Condi: No, sir. 
 콘디: 아닙니다, 각하.

 George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. 
              Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone. 
 죠지: 이봐요, 콘디. 난 중국의 새 지도자의 이름을 알아야 한단 말이오.
       U.N. 사무총장하고 전화 연결을 해 주시오.

 Condi: Kofi? 
 콘디: 코피 (코피 아난 - 유엔 사무총장) 요?
 (부시의 귀에는 coffee 로 들림)

 George: No, thanks. 
 죠지: 고맙지만 됐소.

 Condi: You want Kofi? 
 콘디: 코피 말씀하신 것 (바꿔달란 말) 아니었습니까?

 George: No. 
 죠지: 아니오.

 Condi: You don't want Kofi. 
 콘디: 코피 (와 전화하시려던 것) 아니었군요.

 George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. 
         And then get me the U.N. 
 죠지: 아니오. 그렇지만 이왕 말이 나온 김에, 우유나 한 잔 갖다주시오.
       그리고 U.N. 에 전화연결 좀 해 줘요.

 Condi: Yes, sir. 
 콘디: 예, 각하.

 George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N. 
 죠지: 야세르 말고! U.N. 에 있는 사람 말이오.

 Condi: Kofi? 
 콘디: 코피 말씀 아닌가요?

 George: Milk! Will you please make the call? 
 죠지: 우유 달라니까! 전화나 연결 좀 해 주겠소?

 Condi: And call who? 
 콘디: (코피가 아니면) 누구와 연결할까요?

 George: Who is the guy at the U.N? 
 죠지: 현재 U.N. 에 있는 사람이 누구요?

 Condi: Hu is the guy in China. 
 콘디: '후'는 중국에 있습니다.

 George: Will you stay out of China?! 
 죠지: 중국 얘기는 좀 접어 두지 않겠소? 
 (stay out of 를 어찌 번역할지 애매하네요)

 Condi: Yes, sir. 
 콘디: 예, 각하.

 George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N. 
 죠지: 그리고 중동 얘기도 좀 접어요! U.N 의 그 남자 이름이나 말해 주시오.

 Condi: Kofi. 
 콘디: 코피입니다.

 George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone. 
 죠지: 좋아요 좋아, (내가 졌소의 의미쯤 될 듯) 크림과 설탕 두 스푼 넣어요.
       이제는 전화 연결 좀 해 주시오.

 (Condi picks up the phone.) 
 (콘디가 전화기를 든다)

 Condi: Rice, here. 
 콘디: (전화기에 대고) 여기는 라이스(자신의 성)입니다.

 George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. 
             Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. 
            Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East ?  
 죠지: 쌀(Rice)과자? 좋은 생각이오. 에그 롤 (중국 요리-야채,해산물,고기 등을 
       다져넣고 기름에 튀긴 계란말이) 도 같이 갖다 줘요. 아무래도 중국하고 
       중동에 누군가를 보내야 할 것 같소. 중동에서도 중국 요리 구할 수 있소?
       (마지막 두 문장은 애매하네요.)
